Aka .. The Stinky Stuff

Tripe is the lining of the stomach of ruminating animals. It is highly nutritious and an excellent source of protein, helping keep your dogs muscles and bones strong.

Along with being a great source of protein, it is also packed full of vitamins and minerals plus lots of healthy pre and probiotics, making it a great addition to your dogs diet.

White tripe has little nutritional value to a dog as it has been bleached but the raw green tripe is full of:

1. Calcium that is essential for bone structure and controls muscle and nerve function.

2. Probiotics, which is a type of good bacteria that helps promote gut health and aid in digestion. Tripe contains Lactobactillis acidophilus, which is one of the beneficial microbial flora and has been proven to play an important role in many pathological and physiological processes, helping protect against various illnesses.

3. Digestive enzymes which help dogs digest food at a quicker rate and convert the food into nutrients.

4. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, which help boost your dog’s immune system, reduce joint inflammation, and help maintain a gorgeous glossy coat and healthy skin.

5. Phosphorous that helps form bones and teeth and helps muscles, kidney and heart to function correctly.

6. Amino acids - 70% in green tripe which are not available in muscle meat, these include: Leucine which promotes muscle recovery and repair after activity. Proline which support the production of cartilage and heals wounds. Aspartic acid which boosts antibody production.

There is a downside however.. The smell! but don’t let that put you off feeding this amazing food to your dogs!

Feeding this smelly, delicious addition can help improve your dogs skin and coat condition, reduce allergy symptoms, help keep their teeth clean, improve digestion and absorption of nutrients, reduce digestive disorders and stomach problems and overall make a huge difference to your dogs general health! Plus dogs love it ! making it a great way to entice picky eaters.

Raw Green Tripe is also perfect for pregnant or nursing dogs due to the levels of protein and much-needed boost of calcium and nutrition that it provides. These benefits are vital for the mums health and helps her support her puppies.

Sick dogs also benefit from the addition of tripe, especially if they are taking antibiotics or any other medications. Tripe is great at helping heal the gut flora which is impaired by medications.

Besides the smell, there can be some negatives that surround tripe.
The focus needs to be on HEALTHY GREEN TRIPE.
Tripe from an animal that is not so healthy will be higher in histamine which can have the opposite effects. Feeding low quality can lead to a build-up of histamine within the body which may result in allergy-like symptoms such as itchy skin, yeasty smelling feet/ears and hives.

If you notice your dog is getting allergy-like symptoms after feeding tripe and you have ruled out other protein sensitivities, make sure you have been feeding tripe which has been sourced from grass fed, outdoor-reared animals. If you are already feeding high quality sourced tripe then try cut back on how much you feed to see if this alleviates the symptoms.
